I have read many views on how we could satisfactorily prepare students for future employment, and it raises issues that most of us have probably thought about sometime in our career. My question is, however, do teachers really need to change how we teach? In other words, how suitable are our current methods, and are they still relevant and appropriate in preparing today’s students for tomorrow’s jobs?

Every Tuesday, I'll be sharing some of my favourites that have been introduced to me via Twitter. These will be sites that I believe can make a useful and immediate difference to either how teachers plan and prepare their lessons, or offer an alternative way to teach their students.

I had a follow up session in a primary school a couple of days ago where Reception aged children were reading and writing about the Hungry Caterpillar. Having already read the book as a whole class, pupils were asked to draw the Hungry Caterpillar and write a sentence about what he had eaten. The school asked me to come in and help record the pupils reading their work, and then upload it to Fronter.
We were working in the ICT suit...

When it comes to technology, students always seem to be one step ahead. They were probably wasting time on YouTube, blogging, creating photo albums together, and Tweeting before many staff even knew what those words meant. Why is that? I don’t think the answer is that difficult – children have had technology in their lives since they were born. Most teachers, on the hand, have seen it slowly invade their lives – almost invisibly, but always semi-conscious of it…

This post is my understanding of Ms. L Grant’s post “The Role of Tech vs The Purpose of Education”
Ms Grant recognises that efforts to embed ICT in schools can be frustrating, and the response to this is to devise ways of supporting staff in how to use technology. However, Ms Grant asserts that this may not be the mos...

A very busy day at the LGfL Conference 2012.
As usual, the conference proved to be very interesting. The seminars were all relevant, and well-attended (many had delegates standing, showing how popular they were). We spoke to many schools and teachers, and it was clear that they all shared many common issues.

The highlight of the LGfL Conference for me was the LGfL Awards.
Schools were invited to submit a 2-5 minute video highlighting their successes in using LGfL Content, Services and use of the London MLE. The Awards symbolise what LGfL is all about - providing quality resources that teachers can use as effective tools in their classroom practice, and through the Awards share this good practice with others.
The well deserved winners were...

What a thoroughly enjoyable event this years’ LGfL conference was. I thought that combining the primary, secondary, SEN and technical strands worked very well and gave everyone a chance to meet and exchange ideas with everyone else. In the past, when there were separate conferences for the different strands, primary staff only really met other primary staff etc. It was great to meet so many new and also familiar faces and see what has been going on acro...
